Artificial turf is a kind of chemical product with natural grass movement performance, which is made of synthetic fiber like grass leaf, implanted on the woven base cloth and coated with a fixing coating on the back. Widely used in sports and leisure places.
Chemical composition:
The raw materials are mainly polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), and PVC and polyamide are also available. The leaves are green like natural grass and need to be added with ultraviolet absorbent.
Polyethylene (PE): it is widely accepted by users for its softer feel, more similar appearance and sports performance to natural grass. It is the most widely used artificial grass fiber raw material in the market.
Polypropylene (PP): the grass fiber is hard, which is generally suitable for tennis court, playground, runway or decoration. The wear resistance is slightly worse than that of polyethylene.
Nylon: it is the earliest raw material of artificial grass fiber, belonging to the first generation of artificial grass fiber.
Material structure:
Artificial turf is composed of three layers of materials. The foundation layer is composed of compacted soil layer, gravel layer and asphalt or concrete layer. The foundation layer is required to be solid, not deformed, with smooth and impervious surface, i.e. general concrete site. Due to the large area of hockey field, it is necessary to deal with the foundation layer during construction to prevent subsidence. If the concrete layer is laid, the expansion joint shall be cut after the concrete is solidified to prevent thermal expansion deformation and crack.
The foundation layer is a buffer layer, usually composed of rubber or foam plastics. The rubber has moderate elasticity with a thickness of 3-5mm. The cost of foam plastics is lower, but the elasticity is poor, the thickness is 5~10mm, the thickness of the lawn is too soft, and it is easy to sag. The buffer layer shall be firmly pasted on the base layer, and generally pasted with white emulsion or universal glue.
The third layer, also the surface layer, is the turf layer. According to the surface shape of the turf, there are fluffy turf, circular curly nylon silk turf, leafy polypropylene fiber turf, and permeable turf made of nylon silk, etc. This layer must also be glued to rubber or foam plastics. During the construction, it must be fully coated with glue, pressed and pasted in turn, without wrinkling.
In foreign countries, there are two common types of turf layer: 1. The leaf fiber of turf layer is thin, only 1.2-1.5mm; 2. The turf fiber is thick, 20-24mm, which is filled almost to the top of the fiber with quartz.
